GimmeMeme

GimmeMeme was an add-on for Slack. An extremely simple app that used the Slack and Reddit API. It allowed Slack users to type a command in any channel and get a random meme from one of the top meme subreddits. You could also specify a specific your favourite subreddit to pull a meme from.

The great thing about using existing platforms to build products is that they provide a de-factor marketplace and you don't need to do as much marketing - their platform helps you with distribution. When I last checked some stats, it was installed in over a 1000 workspaces and even in some rather large companies which was really cool.

The app was made with Spring Boot, hosted on Digital Ocean.
