ZippySaaS

I was learning about lambda and Serverless functions on AWS so I had the idea of making a boilerplate project with all the basics you'd need to roll out a project and get coding business logic instead of setting up auth and Stripe integrations. I've had many ideas where I get bogged down with details like these and by the time I set them up in the way I want to... I lose interest in the project. It's a way to save some time if you want to work on many ideas or if you want to have a consistent production-ready setup with the power of AWS.

It's a skeleton project which sets up a React frontend app and a backend with a bunch of resources like a Dynamo DB, AWS Cognito, AWS API Gateway via AWS Cloud Formation. A basic Stripe webhook was also provided to enable easy payments set up.

It was my first attempt at selling a product that I've built. I did product and customer research, spoke to a bunch of people on X (then Twitter) and listed it on AppSumo where I made around $300 worth of sales. Ultimately, I learned first-hand how important marketing and distribution actually are. Most of the other players in the boilerplate market were indie hackers with already established audiences on social media which gave them a huge advantage. A couple of months after I released my boilerplate, another indie hacker on X launched his boilerplate and made $60k in his first month. His main audience was other indie hackers and many of them were ready to support. Funnily enough, I also bought his boilerplate and use it now whenever I get a new idea for a project!

I no longer have interest in selling this as a product, so if anyone is interested, here it is for free - https://github.com/martinzokov/zippysaas
